Water Connections to Fire Suppression Systems Discussed in House of LordsWater Industry Act 1991
Lord Harrison (Lab) raised the issue of water companies and their ‘patchwork of reactions’ to the supply of water connections to fire suppression systems in the House of Lords this week. He challenged the protocols in the Water Industry Act 1991 to “keep up with the times”.
Lord De Mauley responded by providing clarification as follows:
“I am happy to put the facts on the record. The Water Industry Act 1991 already states that water companies cannot charge for water for firefighting, so water used in fire sprinklers cannot be charged for”. Lord De Mauley
It is great to hear the House of Lords supporting campaigners on the issues of fire safety and helping to knock down any barriers that might stand in the way of the installation of more fire sprinklers.
